BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The Baton Rouge Police Department is investigating a video that has surfaced online showing one of its officers repeatedly hitting a man in the face with a closed fist.

The officer, who BRPD has not yet identified, can be seen punching the man in his bloodied face ten times within a matter of seconds. Police said the man, at the time of the incident, was being arrested for disturbing the peace and public intoxication at the time. He was also charged with resisting an officer and battery on an officer.

In the portion of the video that was posted online, the man, who is shirtless, does not appear to be fighting or resisting.

The video was shot in the parking lot of a bar in Tigerland, south of the LSU campus.

“It’s man against police,” an onlooker can be heard yelling as the video begins.

It is not clear when the video was taken. A Baton Rouge police spokesman says the department is aware of the video and has launched an investigation.

The spokesman did not know if the man who was punched by the officer was later arrested.

WAFB inserted a black bar over the face of the man who was hit to try to protect his identity.
