SporTran’s Summer of Fun to offer free rides for kids

SHREVEPORT-BOSSIER CITY, LA (KSLA) - Starting this summer, SporTran will let children ride free while school’s out.

The promotion begins May 20 and will last until Aug. 11. Participating children must use their existing student discount fare card or board with a parent or guardian, according to a news release.

Limit to three children per paying adult without student ID.

Riders must have that card must get one before participating in the program. To apply, visit SporTran's Intermodal Terminal, 1237 Murphy St. in Shreveport.

To apply, riders must provide a report card, class schedule or letter from the school.

After school begins, students will need a new 2019-2020 Student ID for a 50 percent discount on all bus routes.

Also, a free How to Ride class for kids will be held for riders ages 10 and up. The event will have three sessions and be held at SporTran Southwest Hub, 6805 St. Vincent Ave.

Sessions are:

  • 10 a.m. -11:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 3
  • 11 a.m. -12:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 4
  • 2 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. Thursday, June 5

Parents are encouraged to attend, but not mandatory.

Riders will learn how to read bus schedules and maps; plan trips around town and reviews bus safety rules.
