SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - Major upgrades now complete to at a parking lot at the Shreveport VA facility.
Leaders and engineers at Overton Brooks VA Medical (OBVAMC) opened the new parking lot which is 100% handicap accessible for veterans and their families.
The overhaul took several months to complete and includes wider spaces and eliminated trip hazards.
“This parking lot was actually built with the veteran patient in mind,” explained Assistant Medical Center Director, Kimberly Lane, “Our stalls are much bigger actually bigger than ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) requires, we have no curbs, no trip hazards in the parking lot. We have a drop-off/pickup area that will make it much easier for veterans to get to their appointments.”
Lane said in the past the parking lot was used as the main thoroughfare and always crowded and congested, a new traffic pattern is now in place to eliminate those issues.
This is just one way the hospital is ensuring the best care possible for veterans in the ArkLaTex region.
“One of the biggest concerns that I have received from veterans is parking, and I think this is going to make a huge difference and that’s what we’re all about,” said Lane, "(Is) Making a difference in a veterans day and a veterans life. That’s what we’re here for is to serve the veteran.
The new parking lot revamp took place behind the facility in what’s known to many as parking lot 8.
