Shreveport hires its first female arson investigator

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - Shreveport Fire Department has announced the promotion of Fire Prevention Officer Janet Ward as the department’s first female arson investigator.

Ward is a 19-year veteran of the department and a graduate of the Shreveport Regional Police Academy’s 79th basic training class in 2018.

She has completed specialized courses to become a certified fire investigator.

“Janet Ward has worked hard and completed the necessary courses to become a certified fire investigator with the department," Fire Chief Scott Wolverton says in the announcement.

She is the first woman to complete all requirements and hold the position full time.

"Ward excelled as recruit in the police academy and has earned the title of fire arson investigator,” Wolverton said.

She boasts a lengthy record of service from her time in the U.S. Army to now.
