SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - KSLA reporter and anchor Marie Waxel, who covers military and veteran issues in her weekly KSLA Salutes series, has been recognized as one of the best military reporters in the country for 2018.

The Military Reporters & Editors Association, the preeminent organization for media professionals specializing in national security, announced Wednesday that Marie is one of the winners in their 2018 competition for defense journalism.

Marie and the KSLA Salutes series was honored in the Television, Small Market category. KSLA is the only television station receiving an award this year.

The judges said the series provided “a compelling look at how members of the military and veterans support the community."

Marie and the other nine winners will be formally recognized in October at MRE’s annual conference in Arlington, Virginia.

The Military Reporters & Editors Association’s mission is to advance public understanding of the military, national security and homeland defense.
