WEST BATON ROUGE PARISH, LA (WAFB) - The West Baton Rouge Chief Deputy Coroner Yancy Guerin has released the autopsy results for a woman allegedly murdered by her son and found in a creek near her home.
West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office officials say Louis W. Moore Jr., 44, of Port Allen, confessed to killing his mother and even led deputies to her body. On Tuesday, April 30, results from an autopsy determined Joann Moore, 76, died from asphyxiation.
“She was one of the sweetest persons you’d ever want to meet. I mean she wouldn’t hurt anyone,” said Theresa Daigle, who knew Joann Moore for the past 12 years. “She was kind of like a second mom to me. I took her to pay her bills, cash her check, we would go shopping every week.”
Moore lived in a mobile home with her son, Louis, on Lafiton Lane in Port Allen. On Wednesday, April 24, Daigle and Joann went to run some errands. The last time Daigle saw Joann was Wednesday evening around 6:30 to 7 p.m. Later that evening, neighbors heard something at her home.
“They heard some commotion coming from her trailer, but nothing else was said about it,” said neighbor, Tammy Scott.
Daigle called Joann repeatedly Thursday and finally walked over to her home. She said Joann’s son answered.
“I don’t know, just the way he was standing there, just gave me these chills run through my body,” said Daigle. “He told me his mom wasn’t there that she had left and that someone had picked her up that night and I said, ‘Well, when was this?’ He said, ‘I don’t know. I went to bed at 8 o’clock.’”
Friday morning, Daigle called law enforcement saying she was missing. Again, she went back to Joann’s house and found her suitcase in the closet. She knew Joann had two pairs of shoes. One was in the closet. The other pair was seen in an unusual location.
“At that time, one of the granddaughters saw it under the doorstep beside a shovel,” said Daigle.
Daigle says Louis was talking to a woman from China and told her he was upset with his mother.
“He told me that she went in my room. She went in my room and she has no business going in my room and I was like, ‘Well, it is her house. You don’t pay rent,’” said Daigle.
Louis was arrested and Scott watched as deputies say he confessed and led them to his mother’s body.
“They had a unit pulled up and it had a guy in the back of the unit. He got out of the car, of the police car, and he walked and showed them where the body was at,” said Scott.
Piecing it all together, just about everyone is still in shock. Neighbors are trying to come to terms with accusations against a son accused of killing his own mother.
“I can’t do it to my mom. I don’t care if me and my mom exchange words, have an argument, or we just don’t get along. It’s still your mama at the end of the day. She brought you into this world,” said Scott.
Louis has been charged with second degree murder. No bond has been set at this time.
