Authorities ID pedestrian who died after being hit by car

UPSHUR COUNTY, TX (KSLA) - Authorities have released the name of the woman who was killed while crossing a four-lane highway in Upshur County, Texas.

She is 87-year-old Elizabeth R. Shelt, of Winnsboro, the Texas Department of Public Safety reports.

The accident happened at 9:05 p.m. April 23 on U.S. Highway 271 about eight miles north of Gilmer, Texas, said Sgt. Jean M. Dark, of the Texas Highway Patrol.

That’s about 11 miles south of Pittsburg, Texas.

Preliminary investigation indicates Shelt was crossing the highway from west to east when she was hit by a northbound 2014 Toyota Camry being driven by 74-year-old Beverly Burns Sinclair, of Pittsburg.

Shelt was taken to UT Health in Pittsburg, where she later died.
