BOSSIER CITY, LA (KSLA) -If you’ve always wanted to try your hand at rock climbing, there’s a brand new place to test your skills in the Ark-La-Tex.
Risen Rock Climbing Gym is located in Bossier City and is one of the largest places to rock climb.
On Friday, April 19, the gym will host a grand opening ceremony starting at 3 p.m. The community can come out and enjoy rock climbing, aerial yoga, food, face painting.
There’s also an opportunity to adopt pets at the grand opening.
The gym is close to 12,000 square feet and has boulders, and a variety of rock climbing walls ranging from beginner to advanced. They also have a speed wall and a fun wall for kids.
Co-founder Kelly Phillips says the idea for the gym came about after she came back from a mission trip. She says she wanted to bring a new activity for people to enjoy.
“We knew we didn’t have anything like that here in this area and we just knew it was a great sport,” she said.
The gym has already worked with other gyms, ministries and organizations throughout the community, and has created donations funds to help families pay for after school care, fund mission trips and help their employees and others who are interested in rock climbing.
