Coroner identifies victim in Oakcrest Street shooting; suspect sought
A woman was rushed to a Shreveport hospital for treatment of a life-threatening wound as a result of a shooting about 9:30 p.m. April 17 in the 3800 block of Oakcrest Drive.

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - The Caddo Parish Coroner has released the name of a woman who died following a shooting on Wednesday night.

Rodkeira M. Nelson, 18, of Shreveport died at a hospital after being struck by gunfire while sitting in the back of a vehicle, according to the Caddo Parish Coroner’s office.

Officers were contacted around 9:36 p.m. in the 3800 block of Oakcrest Street, Caddo 911 dispatch records show. That’s between Hassett Avenue and Sandra Street in an area just north of Interstate 20 and west of Jewella Avenue.

Nelson was sent to a Shreveport hospital where she later died.

Preliminary investigation indicates the shooting occurred in a black SUV occupied by about four or five people, police Cpl. Marcus Hines said.

Police are looking for a male that witnesses reported having seen run off from the vehicle after the shooting.

There’s no word as yet on whether he is the suspected gunman. No arrests have been made at this time.

An autopsy will be performed.
