SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - After spending the past 16 months locked up, Michael Tyler, known to music fans as Mystikal, could soon post bail and walk out of the Caddo Parish Correctional Center, according to his lawyer Joel Pearce.

“Nothing is a done deal, but it is very, very, very close,” said Pearce. “It’s the kind of deal where I’d be surprised if it didn’t happen.”

The New Orleans based rapper is accused of first-degree rape and second-degree kidnapping, stemming from an alleged sexual assault at a Shreveport Casino in October 2016. It took authorities almost ten months to file charges against Tyler, and bail in the cast is currently set at $3 million dollars.

With friends and family raising funds, and Mystikal on the cusp of signing a new record deal, Pearce believes in the next couple of days his client will have the cash needed to free himself while awaiting trial.

“We are hoping and praying it will go down by Friday,” Pearce said.

Between 1994 and 2001, Mystikal released six studio albums, working with other rap artists such as Master P, Lil Jon, and Ludacris. His career was derailed in 2003, when he pleaded guilty to sexual battery and extortion charges, serving six years at the Eylan Hunt Correctional Center in St. Gabriel Louisiana.

However, Pearce says Mystikal is innocent of the charges he’s currently facing in Caddo Parish.

“This case is eminently defensible,” said Pearce. “The cameras and evidence, in this case, don’t lie.”

“And I just spent a couple of hours with him today, he’s extremely relieved and I think the pieces of the puzzle are coming together.”
