SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - Adrian Perkins became the 57th Shreveport Mayor at the Shreveport Convention Center. His mother assisted him during his swearing-in ceremony.
The City of Shreveport came out to show their support for Mayor Perkins and the new City Council. City Council had their swearing-in ceremony at the same location.
Perkins wasted no time in his mayoral duties appointing four new positions on his leadership team.
During the inauguration speech, he addressed his key initiatives and goals for the city; including improving crime, creating a special designation to make an international airport, and building a website to help entrepreneurs gain permits for their businesses.
“This designation, along with the I-20 / I-49 intersection and our river port, would make Shreveport a prime location for businesses scouting new distribution hubs. Not to mention, increase in the number of available flights and lower ticket prices for local travelers,” Mayor Perkins says.
Mayor Perkins hosted a gala Saturday night. People came out to celebrate the inauguration and meet him.
“We’re very excited to meet the Mayor and hope he will follow through with his promises,” Dorian Ford says.
Other guests say they are excited for new leadership for the city of Shreveport.
