SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - Before New Year’s celebrations start — the Shreveport Police Department asking people to not use celebratory gunfire.
In a Facebook post, SPD reminds residents that it is against the law to discharge any firearm in the City limits of Shreveport. Officers will be on the street on New Year’s Eve to actively seek out those who would fire guns for kicks.
“Please remember what goes up must come down, and that certainly applies to bullets shot into the air,” reads the Facebook post. “While some may think they magically disappear, this is not the case, and people can be hurt or killed by falling projectiles. It happens every year in the United States.”
Instead of gunfire, SPD asks that residents celebrate with fireworks.
