Natchitoches man arrested in deadly shooting

Arrest made in deadly Natchitoches shooting

NATCHITOCHES PARISH, LA (KSLA) - A Natchitoches man is behind bars in connection to a double shooting that left one man dead and another in the hospital.

Authorities say Jonathan Rogers, 21, shot and killed Michael Burks and injured another man, Marquise Holmes, after a fight between the three men.

Rogers has been charged with Manslaughter and Aggravated Second Degree Battery, he’s being held in the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center without bond.

Rogers turned himself in to sheriff’s deputies shortly after the shooting, according to authorities.

On Wednesday morning, deputies responded to reports of shots fired in the 100 block of Cherie Loop in Payne subdivision off of La. Hwy 6 East in the Grand Ecore area near Natchitoches.

Burks was pronounced dead at the scene, Holmes was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Both men are from Montgomery, LA.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
