GF Default - Harvest Hope closes Cayce food bank location, offers alternatives

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - With 40 percent of Americans living pay check to pay check, KSLA is dedicated to helping provide food assistance and resources to our viewers. The holiday season can be a tough time for many in the area.

KSLA’s Holiday Food Drive 2018 is today, we are collecting canned goods and monetary donations to benefit the NWLA Food Bank.

The Food Bank has helped feed over 75,000 people in the seven-parish region within the last year, according to their website. If you find yourself in need during this time here are a few pantries, that are supplied by the NWLA Food Bank and volunteer donations, to get food on the table.

-The Food Pantry,at Noel United Methodist Church, is located at 520 Herndon St in Shreveport. With the most available hours, this pantry is opened from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Monday through Thursday.

-The Linwood Food Bank, at Linwood Church is open between 9:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. The church advises if you are in need to call the church office first at 318-631-4467 to schedule an appointment.

-Operation Blessing, run through the Bossier Sheriff’s Office, is operated Wednesdays 9 a.m. to noon at 1518 Cox St., Bossier City. For more information, or to apply for qualification, call (318) 965-3500

-Asbury’s Food Pantry, at Asbury United Methodist Church, is open every Wednesday from 2 to 3:30 p.m. They do provide a limited number of bagged groceries on a first-come, first-serve basis at their main office, from 8:30 to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8:30 to 3:00 p.m. on Friday.

Be advised that most food banks will require that you bring a state or federally issued photo ID, proof of residence, such as a recent utility bill and recent pay stub or check. If you don’t work and are enrolled in any government programs such as social security or SNAP, you’ll need to bring proof of your enrollment.
