SPRINGHILL, LA (KSLA) - Organizers are getting ready for the annual Springhill Rodeo.

Members of the Springhill Rodeo Association held a luncheon on Wednesday in Taylor, Arkansas, to announce plans for the annual event which begins September 20.

The event kicks off with a parade at 5:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon.

Competition in the sanctioned PRC rodeo starts at 8 p.m. Participants are seeking to qualify for the national rodeo finals in Las Vegas.

Will Lynd, chairman for the rodeo association said the event is a major economic boost for Springhill and Webster Parish.

"This is our biggest event of the year," Lynd said. "We have lots of big events, but this is the largest event in Springhill. It (the rodeo) has been going on since 1952. it is the oldest rodeo in the State of Louisiana that's run continuously."

Lynd said the rodeo is made possible by a group of 25-30 volunteers.
