(KSLA) - U.S. Senator Ted Cruz, R-Texas, is leading the Texas Senate race, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released Tuesday.

Cruz has a nine point advantage in the survey, leading Democratic challenger Rep. Beto O’Rourke 54 to 45 percent.

This is the first time Quinnipiac included only likely voters, who self-identified as such, in the survey. In the past, they’ve polled registered voters.

The poll found support from women is divided, as 50 percent back Cruz and 48 percent back O’Rourke. But O’Rourke has a lead with non-white voters, with 97 percent support from Black voters, and 54 percent among Hispanic voters.

The most important issue for those surveyed was immigration, as 27 percent of the respondents listed it as their top concern.

The poll was conducted September 11-17, and 807 responses were included. The margin of error was plus-or-minus 4.1 percentage points.
