Shreveport teen narrowly escapes kidnappers

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - One minute a Shreveport girl is waiting at a bus stop, the next a van with three men inside pulls up and she is running for her life.
"They all got out of the van and tried to abduct her. She was able to get away. One suspect chased her down the street," says Sergeant.John Stalnaker with the Shreveport Police Department.

It happened just before 7 Wednesday morning at the corner of Orla and Dupont in Shreveport, luckily a stones throw away from The Christ the Temple church on Velva.

She ran from the bus stop about 50 yards away to the back entrance of the church. The 14 year old was greeted by the church's Deacon, Ken Vawters.

"I saw the young girl pushing the door frantic. I asked her what was going on and she said someone tried to pick her up and put her in a van," he said.

Vawters brought her over to the supervisor of the church's daycare.

"She was all shook up, she was crying and shaking," said Joanne Evans.

Evans called police who met her and the teen at the church. Both Evans and Vawters say it's a savior the church was so close and that the teen knew to run there. A lesson, they say, for others to learn from.  "So many of our young girls need that and I'm glad we were here," said Evans.

Police are giving a description of the suspects. They are searching for three men, between the ages of 20 and 21, dressed in all black. One of them is believed to be 6'2 with a large build. Police also say they were driving a small white van with possibly chrome wheels.
