CADDO PARISH, LA (KSLA) - First responders in the ArkLaTex will get a chance to undergo training aimed at handling a growing potential danger in the area.

The training, offered by the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office in conjunction with Chesapeake Oil and Boots & Coots, will teach emergency workers, such as law enforcement officers, firefighters, paramedics and hazardous materials teams, how to respond to a gas well explosion.

It's a situation that has the increasing potential to arrise as more gas wells and rigs are constructed throughout the area due to drilling on the Haynesville Shale.

A gas well emergency could include fire, explosion or even chemical spills.

According to a news release from the sheriff's office, participants in the training will receive professional instruction from the two companies involved and learn who would be the first to be called and the first to arrive in this type of emergency.

The two-hour training sessions will be conducted all this week at the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Regional Training Academy.
