SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - Shreveport police say a driver whose legs were amputated in an early morning crash on Interstate 20 was speeding and possibly may have been drinking.

The driver, identified as Darryl Wong, 41, was the only occupant of a blue Dodge Intrepid when it went out of control around midnight Tuesday on the westbound highway near Greenwood Road.

Wong's car slammed into a guard rail which pierced through the driver's and front passenger's seating areas, severing both of his legs.

He was rushed to LSU hospital where he was listed in critical condition as of 5:30 a. m.

Police say the crash is still under investigation, but they're fairly sure Wong was speeding on the rain-slick roadway.

Paramedics at the scene told KSLA News 12 they smelled alcohol inside the vehicle.  However, police are still looking into that possibility.
