Unemployment benefits to LA residents should be available Tuesday

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - If you are waiting for your unemployement check, we have some good news for you.

Everything should be back to normal Tuesday and you should be able to receive your check.

The main system in Baton Rouge was knocked out during Hurricane Gustav. Most of the city was without power and the unemployment office just received electricity Sunday night.

The regional manager at Louisiana Works in Shreveport says if everything goes right on Monday, people wil be able to call and receive all their delayed funds Tuesday.

But he said to keep in mind that many people will be doing the same.

"The phones could be overwhelmed, so if you get a busy signal, (remember) everyone in louisiana is in the same boat so be patient. If you call and get a busy signal, call back an hour later," said Jacques Lasaigne, manager of Louisiana Works in Shreveport.
