SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - If you have business to take care of at Shreveport's Government Plaza, you may want to call ahead.

The light and everything else that runs on electricity inside the building has been out due to a power outage.

Firefighters were dispatched to the building in the 400 block of Travis Street just before 7 a. m. Friday.

The initial report was that there were sparks coming from a main electrical breaker.

However, after firefighters searched the building, a fire captain at the scene said there was no fire, just a power outage.

Even after the fire trucks began to pull away, about a dozen city employees remained outside.  Several of them told KSLA News 12 they decided to evacuate after the lights went out and an alarm began sounding.

One woman who said she worked in the computer room told KSLA News 12 that if the outage continues for an extended period of time, it could knock the city's computer system offline.   She said the system has emergency battery power but it last for only about 30 minutes.
