Shreveport creating Fire Task Force to address recent fire deaths

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - The Shreveport Fire Department will form a Fire Safety Task Force to look at the city's recent fire deaths and keep more from happening.

This year Shreveport has seen five fire deaths after going more than two years without any fatal fires. The latest death was on July 28. Three of the five killed were children.

Crawford said some of things the task force will look at include more fire prevention efforts, particularly in the area's mostly African-American neighborhoods. Other fire prevention efforts would target lower income communities, elderly residents and children.

The first meeting of the task force will happen Monday, August 11 at Shreveport's Central Fire Station.
