Documentary on early gas boom in Louisiana shown at Robinson Film Center

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - The Haynesville Shale is not the first time the Ark-La-Tex has found itself right in the middle of the mineral leasing business.

"Dreamers and Gamblers: Spirit of the Pioneer Wildcatters" is a locally produced documentary.

It's a look at how the industry shaped the cities and towns we know today here in the Ark-La-Tex, at a time when we could be see a whole new boom thanks to natural gas.

"The wildcatters and oil and gas pioneers are the reason the Ark-La-Tex and Shreveport in particular is the booming place it is today. So now we're seeing history reenact itself," said Documentary Producer Debi King McMartin.

The documentary originally premiered in 2005 on the centennial anniversary of the oil and gas industry in Louisiana.

Late local photographer Scott Griffin was the creative force behind the project.

There's was special screening and fundraiser Thursday night at the Robinson Film Center  for a memorial fund in Griffin's memory.
