SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - A wreck involving an overturned cement truck has left a driver injured, shut down part of a south Shreveport roadway and caused power outages.
Police say they're not sure what caused the driver to lose control of his vehicle just before 6:30 a. m. Wednesday.
But the truck ran off Flournoy Lucas Road just east of Highway 3132, overturned and slid about 50 yards where it slammed into a fire hydrant and utility pole, bringing down power lines.
Both the pole and the truck split in two. The driver was airlifted to LSU Hospital with unknown injuries. However, paramedics at the scene told KSLA News 12 the man was conscious and alert.
An unidentified co-worker who arrived later with the hope of recovering the truck just shook his head when he saw the wreckage. He told KSLA News 12 the driver had been working all night and was headed to the port of Shreveport-Bossier when he got involved in the accident.
An unknown number of homes and businesses nearby are also without electricity.
