SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - Although the mercury says its 100 degrees outside the sun is heating objects up to even higher temperatures.

Armed with an infrared thermometer we went all around town testing the temperatures of different objects.

Doctors say anything above 130 degrees can begin to burn the skin depending on the length of exposure and the age of the person.

With that in mind, we went to construction workers and tested their shovels. Some were 104 degrees. Then we moved on to the fountain at Riverview Park. Where the water was flowing it was 83 degrees but on the pavement where there was no water the temperature was at 123 degrees.

Then we began testing random things. A child's car seat inside of a gold car was above 120 degrees. A car seats black SUV was 134 degrees. An outdoor electric box was 145 degrees.

The most shocking temperature we got was from a slide at the Columbia Park playground. It tested at 145 degrees. The swing was just a bit cooler at 134 degrees.

With temperatures this hot, parents should make sure their kids are wearing shoes before they go outside. They should also cool their car down before putting children inside.

Pet owners should also keep Fido inside.
