Shreveport's mayor holding summit to work on city's filmmaking future

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - Shreveport Mayor Cedric Glover wants to make sure there will be more job opportunities in the movie industry in the city for a long time to come.

Glover has called for a summit on the issue, bringing together local and statewide officials along with commissioners, filmmakers, producers and supporting business leaders.

Glover says he's working against the perception that the film industry in north Louisiana is fleeting.

"It's bringing jobs, opportunities and wealth to Shreveport, Bossier and northwest Louisiana," Glover said. " I think it's very important, based on the fact that there are other states, other cities that are trying to replicate the success we've achieved here in Shreveport, that we focus on where we are right now, where we've been, and most importantly where it is we want to go to continue to protect, safeguard, and continue to grow this industry."

"The summit takes place Friday, August 1, at the Shreveport Convention Center, from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm, beginning with comments from the Vice President of Walt Disney Pictures.
