Two Year Old Boy Found Wandering Alone At Apartment Complex

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - "She told them to watch the child while she went to work."

It's a parent's worst nightmare. Leaving your child in somebody else's care, only to learn your child is missing, alone and helpless. It's the reality of the mother of a two year old boy. Police say the two year old was being watched by relatives at a nearby apartment complex and somehow managed to get out.

For a while the little boy wondered around the apartment complex by himself, before finally coming to the leasing office. "We went around to the apartments and he told me what happened. The two year old showed up at the offices at the Ashton Pines Apartments around 10 Friday morning, and so did child protective services.

The boy's mother dropped him off with his 13 and 14 year old uncles around 8 this morning. It's not known exactly when the little boy did slip out of the apartment, because everybody inside was asleep at the time.

Just last week, in a similar case a four year old boy was found riding his tricycle near Hearne Ave, and managed to sneak out of the house, while people were sleeping. "I'm not sure if it's just the summer months but we do see it quite often."

Shreveport Police Detective Alain Jones says people watching small kids have to be alert and aware at all times. "Getting outside that door wasn't too hard for him to do. Once they get outside those doors and you're not paying attention you never know what's going to happen."
