SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - Caddo deputies arrested a Shreveport man on charges related to the recent armed robbery of a casino.

Twenty-nine-year-old Michael A. Smith was arrested and charged with armed robbery and illegal possession of stolen things.

Detective Donnie Laney said evidence taken from the car used in the July 1 robbery of the Relay Station Casino in south Caddo Parish led investigators to Smith.

Two other men have been arrested for being in possession of the stolen car used in the robbery, but Smith is the first to face charges related to the actual robbery.

The investigation into the robbery continues.

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - On July 1st, the casino at the Relay Station on Highway One became the target of several men armed with assault riffles.

"There were two employees and a security guard, they were all bound," said Captain Bobby Abraham with the Caddo Sheriff's Office Detective Division.

Three days later, the investigation starts to look promising with the arrest of 18-year-old Shacorey Bell. "We obtained a warrant on Shacorey Bell on July 2nd. On July 4th, he turned himself in at the Caddo Correctional Center," said Donnie Laney, the lead detective in the case.

Bell was wanted for questioning about the robbery and he's only charged with possession of stolen things at the time of this report, not the armed robbery. "It puts him inside the vehicle at some time," says Laney.

The car reportedly used in the robbery was a Pontiac Bonneville, stolen from a handicapped parking space at the Southwood Village Apartments. That car was found just down the road from the casino. Police believe it stalled on the armed robbers.

The car was recovered and has since proven to be a wealth of information for investigators. "When they abandoned the vehicle down the street they left everything behind, latex gloves, clothes, the masks, and everything," says Laney.

And that evidence leads Laney to another man, Arsenio Butler, from Jackson, Mississippi. Now there's a warrant for his arrest too. "I believe there will be several individuals arrested before this investigation is completed," says Laney.

The employees at the casino reported seeing only three men, but the physical evidence that piles up could lead to more than three arrests.

Anyone with information on this case is encouraged to call Detective Laney at 681-0700, or Crime Stoppers at 673-7300.
