BLANCHARD, LA (KSLA) - A motorcycle rider who reportedly was trying to outrun police Wednesday morning instead has ended up in a hospital with serious injuries.

The 25 year old man, whose name hasn't been released, was hurt when he lost control of his bike on Highway 173 in Blanchard and flew about 50 yards, landing in a ditch.

Chris Johnson with the Louisiana State Police told KSLA News 12 at the scene a trooper had tried to stop the driver for speeding on Highway 1 in north Caddo Parish.

Rather than pull over, the biker continued driving, traveling, at times, in excess of 100 miles per hour, Johnson said.

Troopers called for help from Caddo Parish sheriff's deputies, and together, they followed the biker at a distance while keeping him in sight, he said.  By the time they caught up to the motorcycle rider, he had already crashed and was unresponsive.

A sheriff's deputy administered first aid, and the man was taken to a hospital by ambulance.  He told police at the scene that he was suffering from back pain as well as cuts and bruises.  The biker was wearing a helmet, police said.

Troopers were not sure why the biker refused to stop.  However, they say they found what looked like illegal drugs in his backpack.
