Texarkana police looking for clue to person behind suspicious package

TEXARKANA, AR (KSLA) -  A bomb squad from El Dorado determined a suspicious package found in downtown Texarkana Tuesday morning did not contain any explosives. Now police want to know who left the package and why.

About 9:30 am a public works employee called police about a large stuffed manila envelope sitting on the sidewalk on E. 3rd street near Olive Street. On top of the envelope was what looked like an infant's teether toy with a set of children's sandals nearby.

Because of the unknown nature of the package, police closed off E. 3rd from Stateline Ave. to Wood St. Nearby businesses were alerted to what was happening. At least a couple decided to shut down as a precaution.

Using specialized equipment, the El Dorado Bomb Squad was able to determine the package was not a threat. Police took the package and its contents to see if the envelope was meant to be a danger to anyone, if it was left there accidentally or if it was a hoax. Police have not said what was found inside the envelope.

Anyone with information about the envelope or who might have left it is asked to call Texarkana CrimeStoppers at 903-793-STOP.
