Man convicted of killing Lafayette County woman wants new trial

LAFAYETTE COUNTY, AR (KSLA) - A convicted Lafayette County killer wants a new trial.

Justin Anderson was convicted in the 2000 murder of 87-year-old Clara Creech, the mother-in-law of former Arkansas lawmaker Russ Bennett of Lewisville.

Anderson has been waiting on death row since the Arkansas Supreme Court overturned his death sentence, only for it to be reinstated by a lower court.

His attorneys now argue he needs a new trial because his trial defense attorney might have been using methamphetamines at the time.

Anderson also claims that his confession was coerced.
