Shreveport Police use bean-bag gun, taser to subdue suspect

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - A nearly two-hour standoff over the weekend ended when police used force to diffuse the situation.

Police say a man called Shreveport's 911 several times threatening to kill himself and his girlfriend. After 90-minutes of negotiations, the suspect made more threats against himself, leading police to rush into the home.

Inside, police say they found the man flashing a knife. They disarmed him using a bean-bag gun and a taser. Police said he had also threatened to drink poison.

Medics took the suspect to LSU Hospital for a broken shoulder and injuries to the chest. He was also committed for a psychiatric evaluation.

He now faces a charge of simple battery.
