MINDEN, LA (KSLA) - A few Ark-La-Tex children made a deadly discovery.  Minden Police detectives say the kids found a human leg while fishing in a creek.  The incident led to authorities to find more remains upstream.

KSLA News 12 arrived on scene when remains were still hanging on a drainage pipe.

Authorities bagged and lifted a leg, arm, and torso out of a ditch running alongside Horton Street in downtown Minden as people watched in awe.

"I was just shocked to hear about something like that.  I was just shocked," said Minden resident Jennifer Williams.

Police say the kids found a human leg just after 3 pm.  They notified city workers nearby, who called police.

Officers got to the scene and in less than a half an hour discovered the torso and other limbs of a body 300 yards upstream.

"There wasn't a head attached to it," said Minden Police Detective Tommy Kemp.

Detectives say since this past weekend's rain, water levels have receded at the creek.

Judging from the way the body was draped over the pipe that was across the ditch, apparently the water receded leaving the body laying across it," said Kemp.

It isn't clear if there are any missing people in the Minden area.

"There was talk of a missing person and I don't have any further information about that at this point in time," said Webster Parish Coroner Carlos Irizarry.

"That hasn't been verified as far as I know.  Right now we'll have to go back and check some reports and see if it's a verified complaint," added Kemp.

Authorities are taking the remains to Little Rock for an autopsy.

They believe the remains had been in the ditch for a few weeks.
