Fiber cut leads to telephone trouble in SW Arkansas

ASHDOWN, AR (KSLA) - People who live in parts of southwest Arkansas apparently are having trouble reaching out and touching others by telephone.

Attempts by KSLA News 12 to reach several numbers in the 870 and 898 area codes Wednesday morning instead led to a recorded message, saying that the calls could not be completed because of "telephone company facility trouble."

A representative with AT&T's repair department confirmed that the company is trying to find the location of a fiber cut.  He said the situation has left people in Hope and Ashdown, AR, without the ability to make or receive long distance phone calls.

The representative said although crews are working on the problem, there is no word on exactly when it will be fixed.  He said repairs like that generally take several  hours .
