Stolen vehicle pulled from Red River

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - Shreveport authorities pulled yet another car from the Red River Friday.

This time, it was discovered by a dredging crew as they were preparing the Stoner Boat Launch area for summer traffic.

It turns out the white 1996 Jeep Cherokee was reported stolen from Bossier City back in 2001.

"This vehicle was stolen out of Bossier City back in 2001. After a period of time, the vehicle wasn't found, the insurance company, which was State Farm, took possession of the vehicle, which never was recovered," said Shreveport Police Detective Roger Courtney.

Detective Courtney says the keys were still in the ignition and the transmission appeared to be in drive.

Police say no human remains were found inside. It's believed to have been in the water for at least six or seven years.
