Confessed Shelby County Murderer Will Spend Life In Prison

A plea agreement will keep a Shelby County man behind bars for the rest of his life.

Jimmie Smith will serve three consecutive live sentences. He has admitted to killing two elderly Shelby County residents and abducting a third.

However many in the county, including District Attorney Linda Russell, wanted Smith to face the death penalty.

A suspect has been charged in a cold case murder out of Shelby County, Texas.

KSLA News 12 has learned that Jimmy Smith has been charged with capital murder for the death of local DJ Vance Payne.

Smith is currently behind bars for the murder of 89-year-old Odalia Sanders.

During that arrest last summer, he allegedly confessed to the kidnapping and robbing of Vance Payne's wife, Billy Sue Payne.
