Alleged Shoplifting Spree Lands 4 in Jail

Four suspects will be ringing in the New Year in Shreveport's jail following what police describe as a shoplifting spree.
They say the group's jaunt began at JC Penney on Youree Drive some time Sunday night.  Police believe the suspects stole items of clothing and managed to get away with the crime--at least temporarily.
It was when they returned around 10 a. m. Monday--allegedly to try it again--that they got caught.  Officers recovered a cartful of clothing at the scene.
"(The store's) loss prevention was conducting surveillance and noticed that the same people that did some shoplifting last night were also in the store today," said Sgt. John Bonanno, with the Shreveport Police Department.
Bonanno said the store's security called 911 and police responded.  They arrested four suspects, some of whom were still dressed in the evidence.
"They got all kinds of stuff," Bonanno said.  "They were still wearing, actually, merchandise from last night, still with the tags on 'em."
Police searched a vehicle used by the suspects and discovered beer and alcohol which they say was also stolen.  They believe the same suspects had entered a Circle K store earlier Monday morning and walked out with the merchandise, without paying for it.
Officers also found what they describe as drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle.
As of news time, they had not released the names of those arrested.
