Teen Arrested in Connection with Chop Shop

Detectives with the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office have made an arrest following the discovery of a so-called "chop shop" near the town of Blanchard.
The suspect is a 16 year old boy who is being held at the Caddo Parish Juvenile Justice Complex. He's charged with 4 counts of illegal possession of a vehicle.  Detectives, however, say more arrests are likely.
A chop shop is the name given to an illegal operation in which stolen cars are taken apart for the purpose of using and/or selling their parts.
Detectives spent most of the night Wednesday interviewing people and recovering stolen vehicles from the property where they believe a chop shop was in operation-- on Reno Private Drive near Albany Road.  A man whose car had been stolen recently told them he received a tip about the chop shop and went to investigate it.  Once he located his stolen car, he called the sheriff's office.
"With the consent of the homeowner, the land owner, we searched the property and found several stolen vehicles out of both the city and the parish," said Det. Charlie Bradford.
In all, detectives recovered six stolen cars.  They say it's obvious they were being stripped for their parts.  Some of those have since been returned to their owners.
