Annual Health Report Card Shows The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly

Good news and bad news from an annual report card on U-S health care. The

quality of care is steadily improving, with more patients getting recommended

treatments, but there are notable gaps, and costs are sky-rocketing. Treatment

for conditions such as heart attack are exemplary, but fewer than 20-percent

of patients with heart disease have their cholesterol down to recommended

levels. The report cautioned that health care providers, both public and

private, need to study which treatments work, which do not, and stick to the

most cost-effective approaches.
