Mr. Mendoza originally qualified to run in the race for Insurance Commissioner, but later changed his mind and instead qualified to run in the race for Governor.
Mendoza has run at least twice for public office. In 2004 was a candidate in the 1st Congressional District race, which was won by Bobby Jindal with 78 percent of the vote. Two years later Mendoza ran in the race for the 2nd Congressional District. That race was eventually won in a runoff by Congressman William Jefferson.
Mendoza is a retired Air Force sergeant, having served 20 years in the Armed Forces.
