An Arkansas man accused in the death of toddler agreed to a plea deal Wednesday in Hope, Arkansas. The deal changed his charges from capital murder to first degree murder.
Doneric Thirdgill pleaded guilty in the April 2006 beating death of a 17-month-old boy he was baby-sitting.
The baby died as a result of blunt force trauma to the stomach. Prosecutors say the plea deal possibly spared Thirdgill his life, a conviction could have carried the death penalty.
It's a deal the toddler's family doesn't agree with.
Thirdgill was sentenced to 30 years in prison. He will not be eligible for parole for at least 21 years.
