Police in Texarkana are investigating a Fourth of July fireworks incident that led to the death of a 13-year-old Texas middle school student.
According to Darius Pollard's grandmother, the teen was outside with other kids shooting fireworks at each other when Darius was struck in the back of the head with a mortar. He later died in a Little Rock hospital.
Police are still investigating what happened. They fear the responsible party is not coming forward because Darius died.
Authorities say there would be charges filed but they would not be murder.
Now, Darius's family faces his burial, left with a few mementos like a trophy his grandmother says he won in football.
An account has been set up at Capitol One to help cover funeral expenses for Darius.
In the meantime, authorities say they will continue to investigate to get to the bottom of exactly what happened and who fired off the fatal firework.
