Website Lets Parents See Where Sex Offenders Live

Each dot on the website is a sex offender living or working near an address you can type in on the website. The website's creator tells KSLA News 12 he started it in 2005 after the murder of Jessica Lunsofrd in Florida. He says it's one of the only sites that crosses state lines.
It's a way people can put in an address and see whose living nearby.
Nicole Nimoth, a Marshall, Texas mom, was surprised at the sex offenders she found living near her. "Scary. Just imaging what could happen, if someone were to see my child outside playing. Or what would happen if I decided to take an afternoon run by myself."
This website lists the offenders as a series of dots. Yellow ones are convicted rapists, blue ones are those who have been convicted of sexual battery, and red ones have been convicted of sex crimes against children.
Knowing these websites exist and where the predators are is one thing. Police say talking to your kids, showing them who the predators are and where they live, also empowers them.
Caddo Parish Sheriff Steve Prator says, "You certainly need to know so you can warn your children selling Girl Scout cookies or Boy Scout popcorn or something for the 4-H or anything else you need to make sure your kids know to stay away from that house."
