Popular drugs could cause risk for broken bones

Popular drugs like Nexium, Prevacid and Prilosec can knockout heartburn but taking them for a year or more may also increase the rick of a broken hip.

Researchers speculate when the drugs reduce acid in the stomach, they also make it more difficult for the body to absorb bone-building calcium.

That can lead to weaker bones and fractures in people over 50.

Experts say doctors may want to rethink giving the pills to certain patients long term.
