12. Many travelers to and from the Shreveport airport complain about the high cost of flying in and out of this airport. Many choose to use the Dallas or Houston airports. What can you do to help address this concern and encourage more people to fly Shreveport?
Arlena Acree We are constantly improving more air service. This week Allegiant Air is adding a direct flight to Orlando. I think it is very important to constantly be improving air services to and from Shreveport. Direct flights are market driven. A direct flight to Detroit happened as result of the business traffic in for General Motors and their suppliers. The movie industry has produced a lot of traffic from the Los Angeles area, so that we should pursue that market to help grow our film industry. We also need to look at other cities that we service to market to them Shreveport as a destination for special events, casinos, festivals, etc.
Madjun Ali As your Mayor, I know that air travel is important to a progressive city. Ways and Means would have to consult with major Airport Administrators for ways and means of cutting costs to enable people to fly Shreveport (a part of Phase I Project - Priority).
Ed Bradley The Bradley administration will seek to bring in a low-fare carrier that will make the cost of flights more competitive.
Henry Hodge-Bey Our landing fee is too high.
Max Malone We must pursue cheap air fares for flying into and out of the Shreveport Airport.
Liz Swaine We will go to the airline headquarters and make sure that their CEOs and CFOs know where Shreveport is, the number of travelers we have here and all that the city has to offer. We can work with our Congressional delegation to overturn the Wright Amendment which has kept low cost Southwest Airlines from giving Shreveport full consideration, and will court smaller and start-up airlines which will at least give us more travel options out of Shreveport Regional Airport.
