4. Do you believe the Shreveport Police Department is large enough and adequately funded to provide for the public's safety?  If not, how would you enlarge it given the city's tight financial situation?

We now have 535 police officers 20 of those officers were just hiredthis year.  We need to budget to keep those approximate numbers to allow for retirement and attrition.  Baton Rouge as a comparison has 700 police officers. We must continue to budget funding needed and continue to seek state and federal grants to help fund equipment and programming.

Phase IV Project:
Like a Commander-in-Chief...you are only as strong as your Military Force.  If Shreveport is growing and developing into... "Shreveport Metropolitan", the SPD must grow and keep up with the demands of growth.

A. Creative Means of the Ways and Means Committee will work to utilize and stabilize SPD for years to come.

B. Phase III and IV work together to accomplish the goals.
