June 16-30: 2006 BizCamp - Plans are underway for the 2006 BizCamp to be held at Southern University at the downtown Metro Center. This will be the 6th year for hosting the youth entrepreneurship camp in partnership with the Caddo Parish School board and the Inner City Entrepreneurship Institute. BizCamp is a two-week entrepreneurship training program that takes place each summer, targeting youth between the ages of 13 and 17. Participants are exposed to the principles of entrepreneurship and successful business management practices. The goal of the program is to create a new crop of entrepreneurs for the 21st century that will allow them to revitalize their community. Youth who are invited to join the program can expect to participate in dynamic workshops, use interactive business education software, listen to presentations made by motivational business leaders, and go on field trips to exciting destinations. The cost to attend the camp is free, however, students must submit an application along with two letters of reference and a short essay. Applications are available at each Caddo parish school or at Southern University at Shreveport's Metro Center located at 610 Texas Street. June 20-27:  Call for Entries - Entries for the 18th Annual Regional Juried Art Exhibition presented the Texarkana Regional Arts Center will be accepted at the Regional ARts Center, 321 West 4th at Texas Boulevard in downtown Texarkana.  Sponsored by E-Z Mart Stores, this prestigious all-media show with more than $2700 in cash prizes is a leader for quality and technique that honors the outstanding work of regional artists.  Juror for this year is Texarkana native and New York artist James DeWoody.  One of the selected pieces will become a Purchase Award for the permanent FaEllen and Jim Yates Regional Arts Collection.  The competition is open to all adults 18 years and older residing in the four states region.  All entries must be the original and executed in the past year.  All work must be original and not copied from another artist's work or photograph.  There is a non-refundable fee of $15 for the first entry and a non-refundable fee of $10 for additional entries.  There is not limit on the number of works per artist.  For more information or a brochure with rules and forms, call the Regional Arts Center at (903) 792-8681 or email artsinfo@trahc.org.  Online forms will be available at www.trahc.org after June 10. 

June 23-TBA:  Library Closing - The Shreve Memorial Library at 424 Texas Street is closed to the public until further notice.  An air conditioning problem has occurred along with an elevator malfunction.  All other branches are open for public use.

June 26-30: Basketball Camp - Bossier Parish Community College will hold a summer basketball camp for elementary and junior high students. The Point Guard/Guard Position Camp for boys entering 7th-12th grade will be held from 8:00am-10:00am. The cost is $40. The Big Man/Post Position Camp for boys entering 7th-12th grade will be held from 10:00am-12:00noon. The cost is $40. All camps will take place in the newly built gym on the campus of Bossier Parish Community College. The gym is located at 6220 East Texas Street in Bossier City, Louisiana. June 26-30: Camp Meeting - Join the Voice of Evangelism Ministries as they host their Camp meeting in Hot Springs, Arkansas. No registration fee or tickets are required to attend. The meeting is open to everyone who desires to attend. Evening Services will be held Monday-Friday at 7:00pm and Morning Services will be held Tuesday-Friday at 9:30am. June 26-30:  BRILLA Soccer Camp - First Baptist Church in Shreveport is hosting the BRILLA Soccer Camp on June 26-30.  The camp is open to children who have completed five-year old kindergarten through 8th grade.  Children in K5-4th grades meet from 9:00am-12:00pm.  Children in 5th-8th grades meet from 1:00pm-4:00pm.  Cost is $40 for half day soccer instruction or $60 for half day soccer instruction and half-day of afternoon care.  Scholarships are available.  BRILLA Soccer is a ministry outreach established in Clinton, MS.  This summer, BRILLA is teacher, playing soccer, and ministering in the U.S. and internationally.  For more information about BRILLA soccer got to www.brillasoccer.org.  The soccer camp takes place at the First Baptist Church campus which is located at 543 Ockley Drive at the intersection of Ockley and Highland.  For more information, call Ronney Joe Webb at (318) 841-8449 or email him at ronneyjoe@fbcshreveport.org.

June 29: Brown Bag Lunch Topics Series - Bring your lunch and enjoy interesting topics on your lunch hour. Brown Bag Lunch Topics are held in the Eaves Room of the Main Library, 424 Texas Street at 12:10pm. The topic for June 29 is Time Management. Does time control you, or do you control time? June 30:  Comedy Show - Night of the Child, a comedy show benefiting Prevent Child Abuse Louisiana will be held at Jennifer's Lounge, located inside the Holiday Inn, Downtown at 102 Lake Street in Shreveport.  The show is headlined by Lee Adams and features Joe Robbie.  The sponsors only show begins at 7:30pm and the General Public Show begins at 9:30pm.  You must be 21 to enter.  Admission is free, but donations are welcome.  For more information, please call Alisa at (318) 425-8060.

June 30: Summer Fun at the Library - Jefferson's Carnegie Library is full of entertainment for youth, Kindergarten through 4th grade each Friday from 11:00am-12:00pm.
