NATCHITOCHES PARISH, LA (KSLA) - Two 24-year-old Natchitoches residents are the men who were found fatally shot in a car early Wednesday morning.

Cordarious Cortez Smith, of the 300 block of Prather Street, and Rodney D. Richards, of the 800 block of Brewton Street, were pronounced dead at the scene, the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff's Office reports.

The two were in a 2000 Nissan that deputies found about 1:42 a.m. Wednesday while investigating multiple 911 calls about gunfire in the 200 block of Michelle Drive in Payne Subdivision off Louisiana Highway 6 in the Grand Ecore area.

The car was in a ditch and had struck a tree.

Smith, the driver, and Richards, a passenger, both had been shot multiple times.

Autopsies are being conducted to determine the cause of their deaths.

Detectives have not yet identified a suspect or suspects, who fled the area shortly after the shooting.

Investigators are "diligently continuing the investigation, interviewing residents in the area and speaking to possible witnesses in the early stages of this senseless double homicide," Sheriff Victor Jones says in a statement.

Authorities urge anyone with any information about the slayings or any suspicious activity in that area around 1:40 a.m. Wednesday to call the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff's Office at (318) 352-6432 or its criminal investigations division at (318) 357-7830.
