Homicide investigation leads to officer-involved shooting in Crowley

One person is dead and another is hospitalized in connection with a homicide investigation and officer-involved shooting in Crowley.

According to KATC-TV in Lafayette, the Crowley Police Department identified the person killed as Eric Robinson, 19, of Lafayette.

Crowley Police Chief Jimmy Broussard said three officers were working security Sunday around 5 a.m. when they heard gunshots nearby. He added the officers found Robinson suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. He later died at the hospital.

Reports indicate while Crowley officers were responding to the shooting, they were involved in a shooting at the intersection of West 2nd Street and North Avenue B in Crowley. No officer was shot, a spokesperson said.

Troopers were contacted by the Crowley Police Department to investigate the shooting involving one of its officers.

The Crowley Police Department is investigating the initial shooting that resulted in Robinson's death.

Both investigations are ongoing.
