Power moves to improve Bossier City utilities
Colder winters means higher electric bills.

BOSSIER CITY, LA (KSLA) - Bossier City leaders and SWEPCO officials came together to talk about the new idea to upgrade the reliability of electricity service for residents.

SWEPCO plans to install "smart switches" on a circuit that expands from the CenturyLink Center to Airline Drive near I-220 and east toward Bossier Parish Community College.

Smart Switches are expected to be ready by the end of this year, and will automatically hinder outages to help lower the number of customers affected.

About half of the most recent outages came from storms. While other outages resulted from vehicles running into utility poles, trees falling on power lines, and fixtures such as crews replacing power poles.

SWEPCO encourages Bossier City residents to report outages and check outage information through the company's app, SWEPCO.com, or calling 1-888-218-3919.
